Find the highest-ranked picks at the intersection of a certification and a category.
Most 'best of' lists in the UK are ordered by commission rate or by who answered the outreach email. Ours is ordered by score, and the score is computed the same way for every product, in every category, whether or not the brand has an affiliate programme.
That produces some unfashionable results. A well-certified own-label product from a supermarket can outrank a boutique brand with better photography, because the certification stack and the review evidence are stronger.
A category hub answers 'what is the best in this class?'. A certification hub answers 'what is the best that also carries this specific mark?'. If a certification is non-negotiable for you — Leaping Bunny, Fairtrade, FSC — start from the certification hub, because the category winner will not always hold it.
The two views use the same underlying scores, so a product does not move up simply because the filter narrowed.
| Pillar | What we measure | Typical weight | Evidence source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Certifications | Audited marks and their scope | High | Certifier registers |
| Materials & ingredients | Composition, exclusions, packaging | High | Brand and retailer listings |
| Transparency | Published supply chain and testing policy | Medium | Brand disclosures |
| Review evidence | Volume and consistency of UK reviews | Medium | Retailer and press reviews |
| Value | Price per use in GBP | Medium | Live amazon.co.uk pricing |
The score combines five weighted pillars: certifications, materials and ingredients, brand transparency, review evidence and value. Each is scored independently, then blended into a single 0–100 figure. The full weighting and its limitations are published on our methodology page.
No. Products are scored before any commercial consideration, and a product with no affiliate programme can and does take the top position. Affiliate revenue funds the research but has no input into scoring, ordering or inclusion.
Usually one of three reasons: it is not currently sold on amazon.co.uk, it contains animal-derived materials which we exclude, or we do not yet have enough verified evidence to score it fairly. Missing is not the same as rejected.
Rankings update automatically as new products are scored and added, typically several times a week. Prices change more often than rankings, so always confirm the live GBP price at the retailer before you buy.
