Shop by the claim that matters
Every hub below checks the claim rather than repeating it — with the CMA Green Claims Code as the yardstick and prices in £.
Feature hubs let you shop by the single attribute that matters most to you — plastic-free, refillable, fragrance-free, palm-oil-free, compostable or made in Britain. Each hub gathers every scored product carrying that attribute across all categories, so you can apply one hard requirement and still see the full UK range.
- Feature filters apply across every product category at once.
- Attributes are read from certifications, composition and packaging data.
- Every hub is UK-focused with GBP pricing.
- Products are ranked by Pickly score, not by feature count.
- Attributes are additive — combine with a category for a tighter list.
- All products exclude animal-derived materials.
Plastic-free
Products that ship without plastic packaging and don't shed microplastics in use. We flag where 'plastic-free' only applies to the outer box.
Refillable
Buy the bottle once, buy the refill forever. We check refill availability in the UK and the real cost per refill in £.
Recycled materials
Verified recycled content — GRS, rPET or post-consumer certified — not vague 'contains recycled materials' copy.
Biodegradable & compostable
We separate home-compostable from industrial-only, because most UK councils won't take the second kind.
Palm-oil-free
Palm-free formulations including the derivatives most brands quietly keep — sodium palmate, stearic acid and friends.
Repairable
Scored against the UK Right to Repair rules: spare part availability, tool requirements and how long support lasts.
UK-made
Genuinely British manufacturing — not 'designed in the UK' with an offshore factory. Shorter supply chains, UK labour standards.
Carbon-neutral claims
We list them — and mark whether the claim is measured, reduced or simply offset, in line with the CMA Green Claims Code.
Fragrance-free
Truly unscented options for sensitive skin, asthma and fragrance allergies — including the 'masking fragrance' loophole.
Energy-efficient
Rated on the UK A–G energy label and modelled annual running cost in £, not just the purchase price.
Holds resale value
Kit that still sells on eBay UK, Vinted or Facebook Marketplace years later — the cheapest sustainability there is.
Allergen-aware
Nut-, gluten- and dairy-free where relevant, with clear UK labelling under Natasha's Law checked on every pick.
Shopping by requirement, not by aisle
Category browsing assumes you know which aisle solves your problem. Feature browsing assumes you know your constraint. If you have sensitive skin, fragrance-free is the constraint and the category is secondary; if you are cutting plastic from the house, packaging is the constraint.
Feature hubs are also the fastest route to a shortlist when your requirement is genuinely non-negotiable, such as a palm-oil-free household or an allergy.
- One hard requirement, applied across every category
- Ranked by overall score so quality is not sacrificed
- Useful for allergies, sensitivities and household rules
- Combines cleanly with price and audience filters
How attributes are verified
An attribute is only applied where there is evidence: a certification, a stated composition, an explicit packaging description or a brand policy we can read. We do not infer 'plastic-free' from a photograph or 'refillable' from a marketing phrase.
Where evidence is partial — say, a product with plastic-free outer packaging but a plastic pump — we prefer to leave the attribute off rather than overstate it.
Popular feature filters and what they mean
| Feature | Applied when | Common trade-off | Best paired with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plastic-free | No plastic in primary packaging | Shorter shelf life for some formats | Refillable |
| Refillable | Refills sold in the UK for the same unit | Higher upfront cost | Plastic-free |
| Fragrance-free | No added parfum or essential oils | Less pleasant to use for some | Sensitive skin |
| Palm-oil-free | No palm or palm derivatives declared | Fewer options, higher price | Vegan |
| Compostable | Certified home or industrial compostable | Needs the right disposal route | Zero waste |
| Made in Britain | Manufactured in the UK | Higher unit price | Low food miles |

Frequently asked questions
What does 'plastic-free' mean on Pickly?
It means no plastic in the primary packaging that reaches you — no bottle, tub, film or pump. Secondary shipping packaging is outside a brand's control and is excluded. Where a product is only partly plastic-free, we leave the attribute off rather than overstate it.
Can I combine two feature filters?
Yes. Features are additive, so you can layer them with a category, a price ceiling or an audience hub. Combining three or more narrow attributes will shrink the results sharply, so start with your single non-negotiable requirement first.
Is refillable always cheaper?
It depends on use. Refill systems usually cost more upfront and less per use, so they pay back on products you use daily, such as hand wash or laundry detergent. For occasional-use items, the upfront premium may never be recovered.
